Countdown to AFROTRAX: Artist Spotlight – Rarri

South African DJ, curator and creative visionary Rarri, also known as Tamryn Arends, is bringing her distinctive approach to hip-hop and trap to AFROTRAX this December. Based in Cape Town, Rarri began DJing as a hobby in 2017 before turning her passion into a full-time career. Known for her energetic sets and distinctive mixing style, she has steadily built a name for herself within South Africa’s music scene.

Her performances have taken her to some of the country’s notable music platforms and events. In 2022, she performed at Rocking the Daisies, followed by her Boiler Room debut in 2023 at Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Studios in Soweto. In 2024, she featured at Days In The Sun, performing at the Slow Cooked Sundays festival at the Ostrich Ranch in Cape Town. More recently, she appeared at the 2026 1Life Sessions, an exclusive hip-hop and Afro-pop showcase hosted on the rooftops of Cape Town. Her work has also reached radio audiences, including an appearance on YFM’s #ClubY, while her mixing style has earned recognition through Apple Music featured playlist curation.

Beyond the decks, Rarri is the founder of GSPT (pronounced G-Spot), an organisation created to help dismantle barriers within the music and events industries. Through access to technical equipment, industry knowledge and a supportive environment, GSPT aims to empower women of colour and members of the LGBTQI+ community to pursue opportunities in music and entertainment. Rarri also manages her own creative brand, drawing on her background in business and economics to develop independent platforms and opportunities across music and digital media.

AFROTRAX brings Rarri to both Cape Town and Johannesburg this December, where she joins French Montana, B.o.B and a lineup celebrating South African and international hip-hop. Known for her distinctive approach to hip-hop and trap, her sets bring her own perspective to the event’s musical offering. From her Boiler Room debut and festival performances to her work creating opportunities through GSPT, Rarri continues to build her presence both behind the decks and beyond the music. Catch her live at AFROTRAX at The Ostrich Farm on 4 December and The Canvas on 5 December, and secure your tickets through PLAYY. Music.
