AFROTRAX Release Radar: KANE DJ

Want to get familiar with the artists performing at AFROTRAX? We’ve curated a Spotify playlist featuring music from across the lineup, giving you the perfect opportunity to discover new tracks, revisit your favourites and get ready for the December festivities.

With AFROTRAX approaching on 4 December, we’re turning our attention to KANE DJ, the Cape Town-based DJ, model and creative curator recognised for his versatile approach to music. Blending classic hip-hop and R&B with contemporary rap, trap and dancehall, KANE has developed a mixing style that connects different generations of music. His career includes a Rocking the Daisies debut and a Good Hope FM residency in 2023, alongside his work as the founder of THE KAVE, a creative platform supporting emerging talent.

For this edition of AFROTRAX RELEASE RADAR, we’re highlighting three of his recorded mixes: The Great Mix – Pt. 5, The Great Mix – Pt. 4 and The Great Mix – Pt. 3, offering a closer look at his musical selections and mixing techniques.

Through The Great Mix series, KANE explores different styles of hip-hop and R&B, combining familiar tracks with contemporary rhythms and creative transitions. Pt.5 draws on hip-hop, trap and rap influences, while Pt. 4 incorporates Jersey club, drill and R&B, reflecting his ability to move between contrasting sounds. Meanwhile, Pt. 3 continues his exploration of trap, drill and contemporary hip-hop, highlighting the rhythmic variety that characterises his DJ sets.

Together, these mixes provide an introduction to KANE’s musical identity, showcasing his appreciation for both established hip-hop classics and newer sounds. Beyond his recorded performances, his work with THE KAVE, developed alongside creative director Jesse Jewels, reflects his commitment to creating opportunities for local musicians and visual artists. From his festival appearances to his radio experience and creative projects, KANE continues to contribute to Cape Town’s evolving music scene.

Listen to KANE DJ’s recorded mixes and explore his musical selections ahead of his AFROTRAX performance. You can also discover our curated AFROTRAX Spotify playlist, featuring music from other artists performing at the festival, and start building your soundtrack for December.
