Victoria Monét Readies Full-On 90s R&B Revival for Next Album

The breakthrough Victoria Monét earned with Jaguar II still feels recent, the album’s mix of assertive anthems and smoother cuts delivered her first major solo spotlight after years crafting hits behind the scenes. ‘On My Mama’ became inescapable, a bold statement that racked up streams and cultural cachet, while ‘Alright’ showed her range in quieter moments. The project swept three Grammys in 2024, including Best R&B Album and Best New Artist, marking her arrival as a core contemporary voice. Now the Sacramento-raised singer is actively shaping the next phase, trading one retro reference point for another as she builds the untitled follow-up.

Monét opened up about the new album’s foundation during a conversation with Angel Reese on the athlete’s podcast. She’s moving away from the 70s-inspired palette that defined Jaguar II with those lush, analog-leaning arrangements,  toward a clearer 90s R&B framework. Expect heavier reliance on crisp beats, layered harmonies, and the melodic directness that era nailed so well. A collaboration with Ciara is reportedly already in the mix, pairing two artists who know how to balance power and finesse. The pivot makes sense after Monét established her footing; this sounds like a deliberate deepening rather than a scattershot change.

Victoria Monét shared: “This album that I’m working on right now is so, so R&B. Jaguar II was R&B, but it was set in the era of the 70s. This feels more like 90s R&B. I can’t wait. I’m very excited. And when I see you, I’ll play you things. I want you to tell me what you think.
