5 Minutes with Renzo Zong: Talks Artistic Evolution, DJing, Future Plans & More

Renzo Zong is steadily building a name for himself with a sound that blends Electronic music with the rhythms and traditions of his Peruvian roots. As both a DJ and Producer, he brings a thoughtful approach to his sets, creating an experience that feels organic and deeply rhythmic. From his early days experimenting with CD players to performing across international stages, his journey has been shaped by a passion for connection, both with music and with the people who move to it.

We caught up with Renzo to talk about his evolution as an artist, his approach to DJing, and what’s next on the horizon.

Hey Renzo Zong, how’s everything going with you right now?

All good! I’m very happy to talk with you!

Can you share the moment when you realized Electronic Music was something you wanted to pursue?
I think it was when I realized that, as a DJ, you have the power to move masses and shape energy.

What’s the story behind your first DJ setup? Any unexpected challenges starting out?

It was a small, narrow CD player, really a marvel at the time! I remember feeling nervous because back then, we had to label the CDs manually. Nowadays, it’s much easier with everything exported onto a USB drive.

How did your first live performance go? What lessons did you take away from

that experience
Haha, of course, I remember! It was at a friend’s birthday party, and we used a home sound system, everything was very funny and full of good vibes.

How do you keep your sets fresh and engaging for different crowds and venues?
I’m always listening to and downloading new music—if a track feels good to me, I can transmit that energy to the crowd. We all love to dance! Playing the same music over and over can get exhausting

Is there a specific track that never leaves your playlist? If so, why?

I think years can go by, and this track always finds its way back into my sets. It has such a perfect beach and sunset vibe, two things I truly love in life. The track is ‘Benediction’ by Hot Natured & Ali Love.

How do you mentally and physically prepare before stepping on stage?

Haha, I’m always nervous, whether it’s a big stage or a small one!

Has any advice from another DJ stuck with you throughout your journey?

When you produce music, it’s a time to hibernate, and a friend once told me, “Don’t forget you’re a DJ, it’s time to go out into the world!” haha.

If you could play any venue or festival in the world, where would it be and why?
I have two! Tomorrowland, I saw how massive this festival was online when I was 17, and Burning Man.

How do you approach building the energy and flow of a set?

I think there are several factors, it always ends up being a journey and a very tribal one!

Finally, what’s next for you? Any exciting projects or performances on the horizon?
We have many surprises on the way…

Renzo Zong’s approach to music is both instinctive and intentional, shaped by years of experience and a deep appreciation for sound as a shared experience. Whether he’s playing to an intimate crowd or a festival audience, his sets are a reflection of his journey, always evolving, always rooted in rhythm. With new projects in the works and more performances ahead, Renzo continues to refine his craft, staying true to the passion that first led him behind the decks.
