Black Motion Transforms Lisa Ramey’s ‘Better Than That’ Into Afro-House Gold – Out Today
Black Motion, the long-running South African crew of Smol, Murdah Bongz, and Problem Child Ten83, debut their official remix of Lisa Ramey’s ‘Better Than That’ today, December 5th 2025, via Lisa Ramey Music. Since forming in 2010, they’ve amassed platinum and gold albums (Ya Badimo, Fortune Teller), multiple SAMA trophies, released music on prestigious labels like Defected Records, a beloved Tiny Desk (Home) concert, and four nominations at SAMA31 for the 2024 album, The Cradle of Art. Few names move African rhythms into global clubs with the same authority.
Lisa Ramey rose to fame on John Legend’s team on The Voice. In 2024, she played arena stages with Zayn Malik’s live band. Her acclaimed debut, Surrender, released in 2020. The original song ‘Better Than That,’ from last year’s Foretaste EP produced by three-time Grammy nominee Joe Capo Kent, has topped 665k Spotify streams thanks to its soul-pop swing.
The remix is all warm, low-end, layered hand percussion, with subtle Spice Drums flair threading through the track. Lisa’s vocals soar high while holding the weight of her lyrics perfectly into the groove, turning a heartbreak anthem into something that breathes on open-air terraces and hazy lounge clubs alike.
Black Motion shared: “When the challenge came to remix Lisa Ramey’s ‘Better Than That’, we were all in. We wanted to bring our own touch and feel to the song, giving her audience a taste of the South African vibe. With Spice Drums adding his signature feel, we hope people feel the same energy and joy we felt while creating it.”
