Countdown to December 4th: Artist Spotlight – YoungstaCPT

YoungstaCPT joins the AFROTRAX lineup at The Ostrich Farm in Cape Town on 4 December 2026, bringing one of the Mother City’s most distinctive hip-hop voices to a festival headlined by French Montana. Born Riyadh Roberts and raised in Wynberg, YoungstaCPT has built his career around representing Cape Town through music, combining sharp lyricism, local slang, historical references and deeply personal storytelling. His work moves beyond conventional hip-hop themes, exploring Cape Town’s cultural heritage, the realities of the Cape Flats and the experiences of the communities that have shaped him. His latest project, WORLDWIDE WYNBERG, continues that tradition, turning his attention towards the neighbourhood that remains central to his identity. With a catalogue built through years of independent releases, YoungstaCPT has established himself as an artist whose connection to home is inseparable from his music.

Before releasing his debut solo album, 3T (Things Take Time), in March 2019, YoungstaCPT had already released approximately 30 mixtapes, six EPs and collaborative projects. That extensive body of work laid the foundation for a career defined by consistency, creative independence and an unmistakable Cape Town perspective. 3T marked a significant milestone, winning Album of the Year at the 2019 South African Hip Hop Awards, while the music video for ‘YVR (Young Van Riebeeck)’ earned Video of the Year. The album explored Cape Town’s history, Cape Malay heritage and the complexities of identity, establishing music as a vehicle for preserving stories that he believes deserve greater recognition. Tracks such as ‘Wes-Kaap’, ‘Yasis’ and ‘We Go Bos’ further reflect his distinctive approach, bringing local language, humour and cultural references into South African hip-hop. His work has also extended beyond music, including an acting appearance in the second season of Netflix’s Blood & Water in 2021.

That commitment to telling Cape Town’s stories continues on WORLDWIDE WYNBERG, his 36th mixtape, produced by Cartune Beatz and engineered by Shaney Jay. Released in 2026, the project revisits his upbringing while reflecting on how his relationship with Wynberg has evolved as he raises a son on his own. This project features Crosby Bolani on ‘WILDBERG’, DJ Ready D on ‘BEST BEFORE’, and appearances from Nym LO, Omari, Nashiefah and Shaakie Roberts, among others. Its closing track, ‘WHEN U GET OLDER’, brings his son into the story, turning the project into a personal record of family, upbringing and the memories he hopes to leave behind.

AFROTRAX brings YoungstaCPT to The Ostrich Farm on 4 December, where he joins French Montana, B.o.B, Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, 25K, Jairic, Rarri, Kane (DJ) and Bassik for a major summer event celebrating local and international hip-hop.
