We chatted with Minus Gravity a.k.a. Apollo Liberace and found out more about his background in music appreciation.
Looking back, what was your earliest entry into music appreciation? And music production?
My first introduction to music was when I was part of a children’s church choir that my Mom and Dad were in charge of. When I was nine years old, I watched my Dad work with my sister Malorie because she was in her school choir, in drama, and had many competitions. I watched her work on her vocals, and my dad taught her song production at our home studio. So, this was my introduction to both music appreciation and production — I was surrounded by it throughout my childhood.
How would you describe your sound?
I have to attribute my sound and the way I interpret music to my ability to travel around the world, starting at a very early age. Due to my parents’ military service, I’ve been exposed to different cultures, sounds, and visuals that influence my songwriting. I’ll have to call it international urban music with galactic capabilities.
Do you have a motto or mantra that you live by?
Yes, I do. “Minus Gravity. Where Nothing Can hold You Down.” I live by this.
Outside of music, what inspires you?
Life, really. There’s an appreciation that I have for being able to travel and learn, develop into a better person, and help others.
Is there a particular historical moment in the music industry, that inspires you today as an artist?
Yes, for sure! Lil Wayne dropped The Carter 2 Album! Life-changing.
Tell us one interesting fact about yourself that no-one would expect.
As a kid, I used to perform cover songs on a street corner downtown San Antonio Texas for tips!
Five words to leave with your fans?
I love you forever, unconditionally.
