Woza Bakzin and Goldmax Drop Collaborative Gqom Album GIB – Gqom In Black

Producers Woza Bakzin and Goldmax have released their first full collaborative album GIB – Gqom In Black, a 14-track project that locks into Durban’s gqom foundation while extending the sound’s reach. Both have built distinct lanes within the genre through years of production work rooted in heavy percussion and club-ready bounce. Their joint effort marks a step up from earlier one-off tracks, turning mutual respect into a complete body of work that keeps the city’s rhythmic signature front and centre.

The album opens its campaign with ‘Kush’ Ibhadu’, which features DJ Tira. Thick drum patterns drive the cut, delivering the kind of direct, physical energy built for dancefloors. The pair moved from trading individual beats to realising their shared approach could sustain a longer project, with the decision to expand beyond an EP coming once the chemistry proved consistent across multiple sessions.

Woza Bakzin shared: “I have always known Goldmax from my earlier years. He has always said he admired my work. Sometimes he would send songs to work on that he was the only producer on and amazingly enough the public would celebrate and support those songs. We started to enjoy our production style together. A collaborative project was only a matter of time. To my surprise, he called for an album. It was evident right after we started working on it that it will be the first one to be released. We have been blessed to have worked with DJ Tira on many accounts together and separately.” Goldmax added: “I saw a reflection of myself in Bakzin’s style of producing and I decided to work on more music with him before deciding on a joint album. Of course, I am always working and he shares the same sentiments, so people should expect many releases from us.”
