With AFROTRAX approaching on 4 December, we’re turning our attention to 25K, the Pretoria-born rapper known for his distinctive trap sound, sharp lyricism and storytelling rooted in his upbringing in Atteridgeville, also known as Pheli. Over the years, 25K has established himself as one of the recognisable voices in South African hip-hop, building a catalogue that balances street-inspired narratives with atmospheric production and collaborations across the local rap scene.

For this edition of AFROTRAX RELEASE RADAR, we’re highlighting three tracks from his recent catalogue: ‘Deep Waters’ featuring Marcus Harvey, A-Reece and Maglera Doe Boy, ‘Phelibasas’ featuring Sjava, and ‘Platinum’ featuring Frank Casino.

Released in April 2026, ‘Deep Waters’ brings together four distinct voices from South African hip-hop. With Marcus Harvey’s soulful contribution, A-Reece’s reflective delivery and Maglera Doe Boy’s distinctive flow, the track gives 25K room to explore a more introspective side of his sound. The single went on to achieve gold certification, marking another milestone in his career.

On ‘Phelibasas’, 25K joins forces with Sjava, bringing together two artists whose music draws heavily on South African identity and lived experience. Meanwhile, ‘Platinum’, featuring Frank Casino, offers another collaboration within his 2026 catalogue, highlighting his continued connections with established voices in the country’s hip-hop scene.

These tracks provide a snapshot of 25K’s musical direction and collaborative approach. His wider catalogue includes his breakthrough single ‘Culture Vulture’, the acclaimed debut album Pheli Makaveli and the award-winning Loyal to the Plug: The Life & Times of Don Kilograms, released in October 2024. The latter earned him the Best Hip Hop Album award at the 2025 South African Music Awards, further cementing his place in the local rap landscape.
