AFROTRAX Release Radar: Teddy Tumi

Want to get familiar with the artists performing at AFROTRAX? We’ve curated a Spotify playlist featuring music from across the lineup, giving you the perfect opportunity to discover new tracks, revisit your favourites and get ready for the December festivities.

With AFROTRAX approaching on 4 December, we’re turning our attention to Teddy Tumi, the Johannesburg-based DJ, content curator and producer known for his open-format approach to music. Rather than focusing on conventional single releases, much of his recorded work takes shape through curated mixes and tapes, showcasing his ability to move between hip-hop, trap, R&B, house and African electronic sounds.

For this edition of AFROTRAX RELEASE RADAR, we’re highlighting three of his latest recorded projects: The Teddy Tapes Vol. 4, The Teddy Tapes Vol. 3, and his 94.7 Bloc Party Guest Mix with Chrizz Beatz.

Through The Teddy Tapes, Teddy Tumi brings together different sounds and genres through carefully selected tracks and seamless transitions. Vol. 4 and Vol. 3 showcase his open-format DJ style, with the latter featuring a focus on hip-hop, trap and rap. His 94.7 Bloc Party Guest Mix with Chrizz Beatz further highlights his ability to bring his selections to a radio audience, extending his work beyond live performances and curated video mixes.

These projects offer a glimpse into Teddy Tumi’s musical identity, from his approach to selecting and blending tracks to the versatility that defines his work as a DJ. His wider catalogue also includes productions such as ‘Umnyango’, ‘Exception (Afro Tech)’ and ‘She Doctor’, reflecting his involvement in music production alongside performance and curation.

Listen to Teddy Tumi’s latest mixes and explore his recorded work ahead of his AFROTRAX performance. You can also explore our curated AFROTRAX Spotify playlist, featuring music from other artists performing at the festival, and start building your soundtrack for December.
