Q+A with Parbleu: Music, Travel, and the Power Cultural Exchange [Interview]

Parbleu is a unique and dynamic musical collective that blends a diverse mix of genres, from energised disco and futuristic funk to cinematic jazz fusion, all topped with the warming vibes of Caribbean dub, Afrobeat, and Latin tropicalia. Formed by Andres Balbucea and Andrea De Fazio in Naples, the project began as an imaginary trio, a playful nod to their multicultural influences, French, Arab and Neapolitan. Over time, Parbleu grew into an eight-member ensemble, each bringing their own flavour to this vibrant sound.

In this interview, we delve into the group’s creative process, their message for listeners, and how they stay inspired despite challenges. Parbleu opens up about their musical evolution, the inspiration behind their work, and their exciting future plans for global performances and new releases.

Looking back, what was your earliest entry into music appreciation? And music production?

Before forming Parbleu, we met playing live in other musical groups between 2016 and 2017. Playing live we refined our friendship and our feelings. Parbleu was our first approach as a musical production in 2020 (Andrea)

What message do you hope listeners take away from your music?

The real beauty of music is that it brings people together. It carries a message and we musicians are its messengers. We hope that from our music our listeners (via streaming or live concerts) can draw positivity, brotherhood and good vibes to create strong bonds and connections in these difficult times to live. (Andrea)

Outside of music, what inspires you?

We believe that behind a great musician there is always a great soul, and in this regard we believe that the way to enrich our soul more and more is to travel and meet as many cultures as possible, understand their differences and similarities, so as to have a broader vision of life and therefore of music.
(Andres)

Is there a particular moment in the music industry that inspires you today as an artist?

We are perhaps outside the discourse linked to the big music industry and therefore we do not believe there is a particular aspect that has inspired us or made us move towards something We travel in an underground world, flourishing, linked to the world of live music, clubbing, festivals These are the realities that inspire us the most
(Andrea)

How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating, especially when facing adversity?

We believe that it is precisely in difficult moments and in moments of adversity that the best things come out: there is a better connection with our soul and with our subconscious. For example, our first LP ‘Danse Cette Zik’ was composed at the beginning of 2020 in full lockdown in a very difficult artistic and human moment. Music and art helped us to move forward and transform adversity into positive energy to share

(Andres)

In your opinion how has your genre/s evolved over the years, and where do you think it could head in the future?

To predict how music and our musical genre will evolve, it is essential to understand how the places where music is enjoyed will evolve. We believe that contemporary music is linked above all to social changes and cultural conditions some elements have been dominant, others are adaptations But after all, there are some things that will never change and will never die, such as the primordial rhythmic pulse, real universal musical languages that allow us to be “out of time” and come into contact with populations around the world (Andres)

What can we expect from your future releases or creative projects?

In the future we expect to do many concerts in Europe and around the world: traveling thanks to our music is an aspect that fascinates us a lot. We also expect to publish new songs, and new albums: we are currently working on new material that we hope to let you listen to soon, maybe this summer
(Andrea)

What is one piece of advice you’d want to leave with your fans?

get out of your comfort zone always be curious to listen new things to then have a greater awareness of who you are and of who you aren’t, what you appreciate and what you don’t (Andres)
