New York-based duo SAJA unveiled a new Afro house inspired track ‘Prettier Than Me’ on 18 October. The recently established duo draw inspiration from a variety of influences and sounds; from dance, to pop and reggaeton while ‘Prettier Than Me’, sees them delve into the gripping rhythm of Afro house.

The duo are composed of producer Sam Erulkar (who goes by Octobr) and singer-songwriter Gabija Pakstyte. The two met at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, US, where they began collaborating. ‘Prettier Than Me’ is a captivating offering from the duo, showcasing their dynamism and artistic expertise. Their previously released singles ‘All For Me’ and Body’, garnered hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok.

The track addresses issues related to self-image, unworthiness and insecurity. Gabija wrote the song to channel feelings of comparison to other women. Gabija shares; “I wrote this song as a reflection on the struggle of constantly comparing myself to others – particularly, in my case, to other women. Through this song, I want to spread a powerful message: every individual is beautiful and worthy, just as they are. If someone decides to choose someone over you, you are not the problem.”

In the track, Sam’s production flows symbiotically with Gabija’s liquid-like vocals. The single features tinctures of house, pop and Afro influences which culminate into a glorious soundscape radiating empowerment and inherent self-worth.
