Five-piece future-soul band Shookrah put ‘Notions’ into our head with latest song
Hailing from Ireland, Shookrah is a five-piece future-soul outfit who have just released their latest single, ‘Notions’ via Broken Records. The track follows their previous release, ‘Flex’ which was shared over nine months ago. You can compare the two above and below.
‘Notions’ was premiered via Variance Magazine and you can read the premier here. The track heralds Shookrah’s upcoming self-titled album which will be released on the 25th of October. The band’s previous EP, Cliches (released in 2017) was somewhat over-looked by its fans. However, their debut EP, Implicit Content (released in 2014) caught the music worlds attention.
If one were to take a journey through their Soundcloud page, they would be treated with a true progression of the bands sound. Starting off in the pop-funk territory, we see them moving further into R&B meeting Soul in their later years.
“‘Notions’ is an ode to and lament of the energy and time we’ve all wasted at one point or another staying in dysfunctional relationships. It’s a recognition of faults committed to the other and yourself in seeking out traits other than those presented to you, which disqualifies the question of who was right or wrong and bares the reality of how hollow we become when we want something so bad that a tarnished version of it will do. The notion of a person is all we have until we get to know them, and too often the notion of change and/or submission takes over and wares on our patience until there’s nothing left to love. I wanted to capture the unwillingness to let go of that someone, not because you’re desperately in love, but because you’re desperately unsure of who you are and what you want.” – Shookrah shares the personal element that accompanies the track.
