Known for his seamless mix of Afrobeat, Amapiano, and electronic influences, Larizzle is not just a DJ but a cultural ambassador, pushing boundaries while staying deeply connected to his roots. From launching his own label, Larah Records, to curating events like Piano House Party, he’s dedicated to creating spaces that unite people through music. In this conversation, Larizzle opens up about his creative journey, the challenges of being a Black artist in today’s music landscape, and his plans to shape the future of global sounds. 

What has been the most rewarding part of being a Black artist in today’s music landscape?

The most rewarding part is contributing to the global recognition of Black artistry while staying true to my roots. Seeing the world embrace sounds like Afrobeat, Amapiano, and other genres birthed in Black communities is incredibly fulfilling. It’s powerful to represent my heritage and inspire others who share similar stories.

What message do you hope listeners take away from your music?

I want listeners to feel joy, unity, and a deep sense of connection. My music is about celebrating culture, breaking barriers, and creating moments that bring people together, no matter where they’re from. I hope it inspires them to embrace their individuality and connect with the world around them.

What’s next for you creatively? Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or new directions you’re excited about?

I’m currently working on my debut EP that I hope to release later on this year. I’m also exploring collaborations with emerging artists across the world to highlight diverse voices. Additionally, I’m excited to expand my event series like Piano House to new cities worldwide, creating even more spaces for people to experience global sounds.

How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating, especially when facing adversity?

My motivation comes from my passion for music and the impact it has on people’s lives. I also draw strength from my journey and the challenges I’ve overcome, as well as the responsibility of representing my heritage. When adversity hits, I remind myself why I started, lean on my community, and use music as a tool for self-expression and resilience.

How would you like your legacy as a Black artist to be remembered?

I want my legacy to reflect authenticity, innovation, and empowerment. I hope to be remembered as someone who not only pushed the boundaries of sound but also created opportunities for others and celebrated the richness of Black culture on a global scale.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a Black artist in the music industry?

One of the biggest challenges is navigating stereotypes and breaking into spaces that aren’t always designed for diversity. There’s also the pressure to constantly prove yourself while staying authentic. However, these challenges drive me to work harder and advocate for a more inclusive industry.

Music has always been a form of activism, especially in the Black community. Do you see your work as a way to speak to social or political issues?

Absolutely. Music is a powerful tool for storytelling and change. Through my music and events, I aim to celebrate Black culture, promote unity, and highlight the global impact of African sounds. Even when it’s subtle, my work is about creating spaces where people feel seen and empowered.

How do you navigate the balance between art and activism, particularly with the pressures of the public eye?

It’s about staying authentic and intentional. I approach activism by using my platform to uplift underrepresented voices and create opportunities for others. Balancing this with art means knowing when to let the music speak for itself and when to use my voice to amplify important messages.

What role do you think Black music has played in shaping mainstream pop culture and global music trends?

Black music is the foundation of most mainstream genres today. From jazz and hip-hop to Afrobeat and house, Black artistry has continuously set the tone for innovation and cultural expression. It’s incredible to see these influences dominate global music trends, but it’s equally important to ensure the creators are recognized and celebrated.

Your music blends diverse genres and cultural influences, from Afrobeat to Amapiano. Can you share how your Ghanaian heritage and your experiences as a DJ in London have shaped your approach to music production and your signature sound?

My Ghanaian roots instilled a deep appreciation for rhythm and storytelling, while my experiences in London exposed me to a melting pot of sounds and cultures. This combination allows me to create a unique fusion that feels global yet personal. It’s about honoring tradition while embracing evolution.

As the founder of Larah Records and the creator of events like the Piano House Party, what drives your vision for creating spaces that celebrate global sounds, and how do you balance the roles of DJ, producer, and label owner to bring that vision to life?

My vision is driven by a desire to connect people through music and showcase the diversity of global sounds. Balancing these roles comes down to staying organised and keeping the mission at the center of everything I do. Whether I’m behind the decks, in the studio, or managing the label, the goal is always to create authentic and transformative experiences.

How do you blend your cultural background with your music, and what role does that play in your artistic expression?

My cultural background is the heartbeat of my music. It influences my choice of rhythms, instruments, and themes. Whether it’s incorporating traditional African elements into modern sounds or telling stories inspired by my heritage, it’s all about honoring where I come from while sharing it with the world.

You can expect genre-defying tracks that blend Afrobeat, Amapiano, and electronic influences. I’m also working on collaborations with artists from across the globe, as well as expanding Piano House into a worldwide movement.
